Welcome from the Dean

I would like to warmly welcome you to the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow. The Jagiellonian University, founded by King Casimir III the Great in 1364, is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in this part of Europe. The Faculty of Medicine is Poland's oldest academic entity schooling physicians, and one of the first three faculties instituted in 1364.

Nowadays, the Faculty of Medicine UJCM remains a thriving and modern, and ranks among the nation's top medical schools in research. We are priding on having some of the finest scientists and clinician-teachers in the world who are engaged in continued cooperation with several European and American universities in designing and carrying out numerous research projects. Our programs in neuroscience, immunology, genetics,  heart disease, genetics, and other areas make this a vibrant research hub. The Faculty of Medicine offers undergraduate studies in three majors: medicine, dentistry and dietetics, and also studies at the School of Medicine in English. The Faculty also takes an exceedingly active part in postgraduate education carried out by the Postgraduate Medical Training Center of the JU.

In celebrating this year the 650th Anniversary of the Jagiellonian University, we are pleased to announce the launch of the new doctoral program: „International PhD studies in medical sciences" at the Jagiellonian University Medical College – Faculty of Medicine.

The 3-years doctoral program provides an outstanding training ultimately leading to a PhD degree in basic as well as clinical science. Individual scientific supervising is provided for all qualifying participants. The studies accumulate either in a degree of a doctor in health sciences or medical sciences in the field of medicine, dentistry, medical biology, respectively. A graduate of the doctoral program will gain the expertise in the area of medical sciences or health sciences and will be prepared to work independently in both basic science or clinical research and education.

Our new website describes the ins and outs of the PhD program, its regulations and procedures, as well as the resources available for prospective and current students within the institution and beyond its gates. The University in Krakow has always been cosmopolitan in nature and this has not changed over the centuries. We aim to ensure that our students will have an outstanding educational experience and grow not just in knowledge but also in compassion, curiosity, and commitment during their stay in our magnificent institution located in Krakow, one of the greatest cities in Europe.

We invite you to explore the many opportunities that we offer here in medical education, biomedical research, and clinical care.  Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.
